In today’s edition of VetSec Impact Stories, JSON Ehlers tells us a bit about why they love VetSec so much. A former Marine, JSON now works 100% remote from his log cabin in Vermont as an information security analyst.
What brought you to VetSec?
The mission of VetSec attracted me to it.
What was so hard? What were some of the challenges or obstacles you faced in transitioning to a cybersecurity career?
Transitioning from military to civilian can be challenging. I had figured it out with the help of a friend. Knowing about Vetsec then would have been a huge benefit. Vetsec helps by people sharing perspectives and their own experiences with stuff li the military to civilian transition.
How did VetSec help you? How has VetSec impacted you personally and professionally? How has VetSec contributed to your career success?
Vetsec gave me a place to continue to reach people and mentor. I even found someone to build my personal project website for me in Vetsec! Another veteran!
Reflecting on your journey, how would your career and personal growth been different without VetSec?
I wouldn’t have anyone to talk to who aligns with my background and experience.
What advice would you give to other veterans considering a career in cybersecurity and thinking about joining VetSec?
Join Vetsec. Read a lot. Decide for yourself
